Life is for Living

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” Anais Nin

How many of us meander through life halfheartedly hoping for change or for something to happen that will enliven our everyday existence? Perhaps we long for something or someone to do it for us? Never feeling courageous enough to initiate change for ourselves, so we don’t have to take a risk or the rap if it all goes wrong. But what if we couldn’t go wrong? What if taking action today on something we desire to have happen was in itself getting it right, whatever the outcome!

Take a moment to feel into your response to the previous sentence. What does it invoke in you? Next, I invite you to write down your answers to the following questions – and go with your hearts genuine response before the mind tries to edit the answers.

If you could change one thing about your life today, what would it be? What are the feelings and emotions you want to experience as a result of this change? What does taking a risk look like to you today? What did taking a risk look like to you 10 years ago? 20 years ago? And what might it look like 10 years from now?

I took what felt like a risk this summer when I travelled to mid-Portugal to take care of a friend’s garden and cats for 2 months. Though the idea arose quite unexpectedly it didn’t take me long to find my YES. Just one week in fact! So how did I go from a chance conversation to knowing it was the right thing to do?

Firstly, I had to be willing to be open to the idea that taking 2 months off was a possibility to be entertained and not just dismiss it as absurd. Secondly, I needed to trust that if something in me felt it was the right thing to do then I would instinctively know what actions to take, one step at a time, to birth it into reality. Thirdly, I had to let go of the fear that my world (or at least my capacity to earn a living) would come crashing down if I retreated to the hills for 2 months.

Finally, I reassured myself that if my desire to say YES was in alignment with my hearts intention to be of service to Sacred Life, then Life would guide and assist me in making it happen. Thankfully I didn’t have to wait long for tangible evidence that the stars were aligned and the reminder that change can happen quickly in the energetic realms.

So was it worth the risk? And what did I gain from my sabbatical?

Yes. And put simply, there is no time to waste in showing up in service to Life!

What gives me hope and resources me despite the rising tide of deprivation, dis-ease and disconnection, is that there is so much to be grateful for. Staying present to the blessings that come from the simple joy of being alive. Feeling the warmth of autumn sunshine, gathering the late summer harvest of beans or hearing the giggles and delight of a toddler at play, we can connect to the preciousness of this Life and open up to the love it can embolden us to share with others.

For Presence

Awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet

Immensity of your own presence.

Have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.

Receive encouragement when new frontiers beckon.

Respond to the call of your gift and the courage to follow its path.

Let the flame of anger free you of all falsity.

May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame.

May anxiety never linger about you.

May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul.

Take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention.

Be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul.

May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder.
